Here is an email I received from AJ and Thomas in Jan 2009. I have made an effort to preserve the email's original text formatting, such as text colour, bolding, etc. I'll summarize the email in my next post for those of you too lazy to read the full text.
Subject: Open Letter To Singapore XL Members
Dear Friends and XL Family members,
We, the XL Singapore Country Managers, AJ and Thomas would like to personally wish all of you a very Happy New Year. We would also like to wish all of you a prosperous future and pray that we can all work together and help each other to achieve success during these changing times. Let us also share our life experience the last 2 years with all of you and how through Danish our youngest son we became XL Life members and XL Singapore Country Managers.
OUR DANISH AND XL EXPERIENCE
Danish Experience
Today is the 40th day of the passing on of our beloved son Amir Danish at the age of 4. As we are having some prayers today to observe his passing on we feel emotionally motivated to share our experience with all of you.
Danish was born on the 9th of July 2004. He was the youngest of our four children. For the 1st 2 years he was the healthiest child but after his 2nd birthday he started having fevers sometimes lasting for more than 10 days. We were assured by 2 doctors that the fevers were normal and that we had nothing to worry. Unfortunately on the 9th of October 2006 we had to rush him to the A & E Department of K.K Children’s Hospital and a few days later we were told that he had stage 4 Neuroblastoma, cancer of the nervous system and 20% chance of survival. Our whole world collapsed and the only question was - WHY US? Ironically the answer came in the form of the 2 year old girl, Michelle, lying in the next bed. Michelle was diagnosed with stage 2 Leukemia and 70% chance of survival but she had down syndrome from birth.
The next 6 months Danish had to undergo a minor head surgery, 6 rounds of chemotherapy and a major 10 hours abdominal surgery. Each treatment would mean about 2 weeks in the hospital. In April 2007 we had an opportunity to have a 10 days vacation at Mecca Saudi Arabia with the whole family including Danish.
XL Experience (2007)
It was at this time in April 2007 that we decided that we need to enhance our business progress by getting involved with something new. Initially we were attracted to Robert Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad advisor Blair Singer’s Sales Dogs franchise. While we were having meetings and discussions with Blair Singer and Veronica Tan of Success Resource, we decided to attend the NAC 2007. During the NAC 2007 we were attracted to Roger’s seminar and we attended the XL’s cocktail that evening. We were impressed by Roger’s Show Up, Step Up and Give Back, and we decided to become XL life members in May 2007.
Danish Experience (2007)
Meanwhile we also had to accompany Danish for 2 more chemotherapy sessions in April and early May. In June and early July AJ had to look after Danish in the hospital for 40 days during his Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) in an isolation room and was not allowed to have any visitors.
XL Experience (2007 / 2008)
After Danish's BMT we attended the Singapore WDE in July 2007, the Malaysian WDE and a Bangkok Momentum Night and Breakfast with Eric Edmeades in August 2007, the EBS in Bali in September 2007 and the WD Master Practitioner in October 2007. We invested a lot of time and money as paying participants to attend the above events. In November 2007 we became the XL Singapore Country Managers. We knew that besides the normal responsibilities we all face, taking on the Singapore Country Managers role and coping with Danish's treatment would be very challenging. We therefore requested for Elaine to help us run the XL events for a few months. We also decided to engage and pay Carlos to help manage the XL events. We wish to thank Elaine for helping us for a couple of months. Carlos also had problems coping with his responsibilities due to his commitments in organising XL Mission Control Events and his responsibilities as XL Mexico Country Manager. In June 2008 we had to stop Carlos services and decided to take over the running of XL Singapore ourselves and with the promised support of XL Mission Control.
Danish Experience ( 2007 / 2008 )
In the meantime after Danish's BMT in July 2007 he was on monthly clinical follow-up. However on the 14th of December 2007, Danish had severe fits due to the bleeding from the tumour in his brain, Danish had to have a major brain surgery to stop the bleeding on the 31st of December 2007. He had to undergo Radiation Therapy treatment on the brain tumour for 17 days in February 2008. On the 10th of July 2008, one day after his 4th birthday, Danish was diagnosed with a relapse. The Oncology specialist suggested seeking alternative treatment or to make him comfortable and wait for time. In August 2008, Danish became paralysed from the waist down and this once active boy who enjoyed running and racing was unable to walk. His state of health started deteriorating and on the 30th of November 2008at 6.30 pm he was fully cured from this earthly world. On that Sunday at about 12.30 pm he told AJ that he wants to go back home, that he will miss her and that he loves her. He then stated singing Barney's song " I love you, you love me..." After singing the song he told AJ that he was tired and wanted to sleep. He than went into a coma and passed on peacefully. Thomas was not in Singapore when Danish passed on as he was in Malaysia supporting and helping an XL member in business.
XL Experience (2008)
From July 2008 we had to cope with the responsibility of running a business, taking care of the family, organising the XL events and looking after Danish. To make matters more interesting we had the Global Financial crisis in September 2008 and this meant that we had to be more cost conscious. It was during this time that XL Mission Control also had major changes and were unable to give us the promised support.
When Carlos and Elaine were the Singapore Country Managers, they were not the licensee but the full time staff of XL Mission Control doing a job. They did not have to worry about the cost of running the events as all the cost were paid for by XL Mission Control, on the other hand we as licensees / franchisee have to pay for the cost of the events and also provide logistic support for XL Mission Control's events. We were also told by XL Mission Control that we do not have to provide food and drinks as this is not our cost.
We only received 25% of the actual membership fees received by XL Mission Control after the date we became the Country Manager. This means that for members who joined and paid their membership fees before November 2007 we are not entitled to receive any portion of what has been collected by XL Mission Control, but we will still have to pay for their cost for events e.g. $30 per pax charged by the hotel etc..
While we were finding a balance between cost and profitability we heard that rumours were being spread to discredit us. For example during the recent Wealth Shift Coaching by Mike Hancock, food was not provided and this was decided by Michelle Clarke as part of XL Mission Control cost cutting exercise. But there were XL life members spreading rumours that we the XL Singapore Country managers were responsible for the decision to deprive the members of the meal benefits. It is sad that people who seem very friendly giving "warm" hugs were also armed with daggers to back-stab us. Roger has mentioned that XL network is a trusted network and we, your XL Singapore Country Managers will do our best to ensure that this is achieved.
We, your XL Singapore Country Managers have a 5 years license of which we have completed one very challenging year and have four more years to serve you. We would like to work with all of you to make our journey together a very enjoyable and rewarding journey. A journey where we can help each other to achieve success in our lives. We will also be asking Roger and Dave to Step Up and Give Back to our XL Singapore Community by helping both of us to be more efficient and effective in our Giving Back to all of you. We will also like to invite all of you to give us your constructive feedback and ideas via email at bnp_bmw@yahoo.com.sg so as XL Singapore will be the best in the world.
Finally we wish to thank all of you for your patience and understanding.
We also have a very special gift with lots of love and kisses from Amir Danish to all of you who are very special people to us, please click here to download " The Book of Your Life."
Warmest Regards
A J & Thomas
